Spirituality and Homosexuality

So what’s the dealio on the Bible verses that condemn homosexuality?

1 Corinthians 6: 9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Romans 1:26-27 - "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

In Genesis 19 God destroys Sodom and Gomorrah due to the extensive amount of sin and debauchery going on in the city. Some add homosexuality in with the sins being committed. Others say that it was not just blanket homosexuality being condemned but homosexual rape, meaning it is different from homosexual behavior in loving relationships.

That was a case of ostensibly heterosexual males intent on humiliating strangers by treating them 'like women,' thus de-masculinizing them. Their brutal behavior has nothing to do with the problem of whether genuine love expressed between consenting adults of the same sex is legitimate or not. Whether these males are 'gay' or 'straight', a mature same-sex love relationship is not under discussion.

So what do you guys think?

  1. AGD: It is often a struggle reconciling religion and being gay. Some people find that the principles of love and acceptance trump the many conflicting passages in the Bible. And I've read too many heartbreaking stories of people unable to reconcile the conflict that they turn to suicide as the answer.

The Closet Professor just ran a series this past week on his own journey accepting his religion and being gay. I recommend you take a look at his posts. Here's the start of the series:

  4. this may be more clear... differet version. dont read just one version but read multiple ones.

    1 Corinthians 6:9-12
    New International Version (NIV)

9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

and God AND Jesus both talk about homosexuality:
    2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness

    John 1:1-2
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.

Jesus is who it is talking about and it says that He the very Word of God. God has inspired every Word of the Bible. Those who wrote the Bible were annointed and set apart for this job. They did the writing but it was God who inspired every single word on every page.

just food for thought because i saw some flaws in your thinking

  6. Religion is a crock of shit, based upon power, money, manipulation and playing upon people's superstitions. Why do people care so much about it? It's just evil stuff.

Move on from religion and care about life.
